Life Skills

Start over with a comprehensive Life Skills program

What are life skills:

Life skills are abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable humans to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of life. This concept is also termed as psychosocial competency.

Our Goal:

Our Goal is to implement these Life skills to a variety of individuals and groups particularly in the recovery field. The sole purpose is to equip individuals with daily strategies and techniques that are REQUIRED (yet sometimes not thought of until it’s too late) to sustain a life of long term recovery.

Our Life Skills Package

Each Life Skills Package is a 4-week program, taught usually in a sequence. The Life Skills programs are made up of a mix of Cognitive Behavioural Techniques (CBT), 12 concepts, short videos, worksheets along with practical application strategies and tools they can apply to their everyday life.

Each workshop can be held as a group or a one on one 4-week sequential session. During our group workshop we work in small groups and as individuals. By the end of each program everyone who participates receives a certificate of completion and a clear plan of how to execute the skill (practical application) in their own personal life.

Life Skills Program 1 – Wants vs. Needs

We discuss and distinguish the difference between wants vs. needs. Needs are something that you must have, in order to live. Wants are something that you wish to have, so as to add comforts in your life. Needs represents the necessities while wants indicate desires.

Life Skills Program 2 -Time management

We discuss what time management is and the importance it plays in creating a balanced life for yourself. We go through a variety of techniques like the Eisenhower Matrix, procrastination and how to overcome it along with the Pomodoro technique.

Life Skills Program 3 – Finances

What role does money and our control of it play in our everyday lives.

  • How can finances act as a trigger to me?
  • How to budget – we work through a variety of budgeting techniques (50, 20, 30 rule, budget calendar etc).
  • How can I get a bank account?

Life Skills Program 4 – Nutrition

We will help you develop good habits of nutrition and discuss two main types of nutrients. Macro-nutrients are those nutrients that the body needs in large amounts. These provide the body with energy (calories). Micro-nutrients are those nutrients that the body needs in smaller amounts. We will also complete an in-person grocery shop and teach you 2 or 3 easy to make, freezer worthy recipes.

Life Skills Program 5 – Goal setting

We teach you how to set both goals (short term and long term) so you can accomplish more. We will discuss the difference between long term goals and short term goals. We will help you identify problem areas that get in the way of your ability to accomplish what you want in life (ie. self-sabotage, negative self talk, procrastination).

We will also help you set meaningful goals and develop a goal mindset. You’ll even learn how to create and stick to “To Do Lists” that can help you accomplish your long term goals.

Life Skills Group Training

I will be offering these life skills in a workshop package to recovery houses and treatment centres. All aspects of the program will be covered in a weekly group setting. Contact me to discover how this Life Skills program can work for your organization.
